FOSALI chandeliers are designed to be cleaned with multiple methods- EASYLY.
Don't worry, none of the methods is super time consuming. Normally it is sufficient to clean the chandeliers 1-2x per year.
Before starting cleaning any chandelier, make sure you will read this document.
Before starting cleaning any chandelier, make sure you will
- turn it off and you will not turn it on for at least 2 hours (Physically disconnect device from mains plug if possible)
- it is fun&recomended to do this in 2 person
- you have all the necessary tools and cleaning materials (read bellow)
- pure IsoPropylAlcohol (IPA) in spray dose
- large plastic sheet to place underneath the chandelier (min. 2x wider than the chandelier base is)
- Window cleaner in spray dose (not containing alcohol, only IsoPropylAlcohol / IPA is allowed.)
- Ladder (to reach the base of the chandelier)
- Clean washing machine (for washing removable glass components )
- at least 2pcs of fibre cloth - 1 for wet cleaning, 1 for dry polishing
- make sure you make room underneath the chandelier - put all furniture and other movable stuff aside.
Cleaning method 1 : Chandeliers with EASYLY removable GLASS parts (more precise method)
Ideal for : All chandeliers which glass design can be taken apart, and easily put together again. These chandeliers can be cleaned with METHOD 2 too, which provides similar results, sometimes more easy, with no worry about rebuilding the design back again.
Suitable for : INFINITO-FIBRES, ASTER, RHEA, TWIRL
All these design have glass parts hanging on "earing" type of clip. Thanks to this clip, it is easy to open it, and remove the glass part from it, making it ideal to be placed in the washing machine. If you need you can somehow mark the glass parts & fibres to know which glass part was placed on which clip, to get the original design back without any hassle.
After removing the glass components, it is the most easy way to clean them in washing machine. Before using it, clean the inside of the machine perfectly. You can use any program or detergent agent / capsule suitable for glass washing.
While the washing machine will be washing the glass parts, you can manually clean the wires/fibre optics with clips. For this purpose use window cleaner NOT containing any kind of alcohol (ONLY IsoPropylAlcohol / IPA is safe to use, if you dont know, rather do not use it) and manually clean the cables/fibre optics by soft cloth by gently holding it from top and pulling it slowly gently downwards. While doing this, make sure you dont touch the mirror base surface, otherwise you will have to clean the surface, which can be very dificult as many wires/fibres are comming out of it, and these should be not damaged/broken. After all wires are cleaned and glass parts washed, you can reassemble them back.
Cleaning method 2 : Chandeliers with NON-EASY removable parts (most common + easy method)
Sometimes removing all the components might be super long lasting to get the desired design back to original shape, so we prevent it.
Suitable for : All chandeliers in METHOD1 + INFINITO-LED, INFINITO-SCULPTURE, AQUILA, LURE, LEAF, ELUDA, TENERIS, SPECTRA, MODULINO, CRYSTALLION, SOLINA, VEIN
Even TENERIS and SPECTRA come with large crystalls hanging on "earing" type of wire holder, it takes serious amount of knowledge, skills and time to dissmantle all crystalls, and reinstall it back. We strongly advise you not to do that. Rather clean it fully assembled (bellow).
SOLINA is designed with massive glass tubes, which are pushed and holding thanks to silicone rubber sealing inside the fitting. Removing the glass parts is recomended only for large installations, which are to be installed to other places. For standard cleaning purpose (if not very dirty inside) we do not recomend you to disassemble the glass parts, as you might damage the glass or injure yourself. Cleaning should be performed normally on the outside in fully assembled state. (bellow)
MODULINO is very interesting design, with almost all parts replaceable. As it is designed to form massive & tall installations, normally disassembling it would take too much effort and scaffolding, for such thing, which can be done more easyly. Cleaning should be accomplished in fully assembled way.
All these designs are designed with glass parts not normally replaceable. Cleaning of these chandeleirs should be performed in fully assemled way.
1. Place large plastic sheet underneath the chandelier (2-4x larger than the size of the base)
2. Make sure the room is well ventilated, place ladder underneath.
3. Spray window cleaner from top to bottom from all sides to get on all components. If the base surface is not very dirty, try to prevent applying the window cleaner on its surface (cleaning the surface is more time consuming) Focus on spraying mainly the haging wires, hanging components, these will contain most dirt and dust.
4. Leave the window cleaner to apply for 2-4 minutes
5. After few minutes, spray alot window cleaner from top pointing downwards, so it will continuosly drip and take away all the dust and dirt to bottom, leaving the top parts clean. Apply alot window cleaner, once top parts start to become clean, move more downwards. After most of the dirt was dripped, and most of the top parts are clean, you can manually finish the cleaning of the glass parts where are some dirty leftovers.
6. As a last detail, you can manually clean and polish all the wires and components by applying small amount of window cleaner on the cloth and manually cleaning it. Always Continue from top to bottom, and never pull the wires / fibres hard. Behave gently.
Normally whole cleaning takes about 1-2hours, normally it is sufficient to clean the chandeliers 1-2x per year.
Cleaning method 3 :
Chandeliers with other than glass parts
Specific materials, specific designs, non-easy removable or designs, where removing components might be too risky.
Suitable for : (GRAIN, STILIA, TREA)
The cubical components hanging at light rods are removable. You can clean outside+inside of the cubes right at the chandelier, or if the chandelier is high in the space, you can dismantle these from chandelier.
Cubes can be unscrewed or replaced from the fitting : Hold tiny ring (bolt) found inside the cubes, and turn it anticlockwise. You can turn with the top part (screw) too. Light rod if needed, can be in similar way unscrewed from the base, just hold the top stainless steel screw with hand, turn it anticlockwise until it is fully removed. please note the ends : the top and bottom end IS NOT REPLACEABLE. Once assembling it, do not turn it other way round, or you can damage the LED modules in the base.
STILIA contains of LIGHT rods holding in its position thanks to push&hold system. To remove the rods, simply pull it out of the base. Be aware they are of different length. If you can not make sure their lengths wont mix up while cleaning, remove and clean in groups only same length rods, not to mix it up, otherwise your design will become not as before. Once cleaned, return the light rods into the base with push in (end to push into the base might have more rounded edges).
TREA contains 8 massive thick light rods, which are pushed in the LED light source hole. They can be pulled easyly.
GRAIN CUBES can be cleaned with fibre cloth and window cleaner.
On inside, alot cleaning agent can be used. Inside edges can be cleaned with ear buds.
On the outside, try not to use much cleaning agent, ideally use 100% IsoPropylAlcohol (IPA).
LIGHTRODS : NEVER use anything containing alcohol, even the smallest amount of alcohol will lead to create tiny cracks and the light rod will break. Even window cleaner can contain Alcohol, do not use it unles it is clearly shown it contains ISOPROPYLALCOHOL (IPA), which is the only kind to be safe for cleaning.
The BASE : Bottom and side parts can be cleaned with window cleaner, polish with fibre cloth. Be aware of scratching it OR applying any cleaning agent into the hole with LED light sources.
